Our CME workshop consists of two parts: Didactic and practice. First, we will review topics including (but not limited to): orthopedics, neurology, spine, neck pain, back pain, and headaches. Secondly, we will learn Botox, joint, tendon, bursa, muscle injection and nerve block techniques using hands-on practice on models.
For the didactic section, we will use correlative anatomy and pathology to facilitate understanding of signs and symptoms. These concepts will be reinforced with extensive case studies to highlight differential diagnosis, risk reduction, treatment, and complication management. We hope to build a road map for diagnosing and treating common orthopedic, neurological, spinal, and headache-related conditions.
For the practice section, we will practice joint injections and peripheral nerve blocks on both our own proprietary models as well as commercial models. You will find that these procedures are much less formidable than they seem; with practice, they are easily learned and executed. We hope to dispel the notion that such skills are the reserved domain of a select few specialists.
Throughout the course, indication selection and complication management are emphasized. This is because complications are rare in practice; it would take a long time to encounter one, and even longer to accumulate sufficient knowledge and experience to manage them confidently. We will share such experiences from faculty who have been doing Botox, joint injections, and nerve blocks for more than fifteen years. You will review classic cases to understand how to properly select indications to minimize complications in the first place, and how to manage them if and when they do occur.
We provide training for FDA-approved Botox indications to treat migraines, cervical dystonia, spasticity of both the upper and lower extremities, wrinkles, frown lines, crow's feet, and glabellar lines. Further, you will practice large, medium, and small joint injections, muscle and trigger point injections, as well as peripheral and cranial nerve blocks. Ultrasound imaging will be used when needed.
Upon completion of the course, you will be proficient with these injections on practice models:
