Botox & Ultrasound-Guided Orthopedic Injection Workshops

Day 1: Aesthetic and medical Botulinum Toxin Injection

Many healthcare providers are interested in adding aesthetic and medical Botulinum toxin (Botox) to their repertoire. However, Botox requires far more than just injection skills. Our faculty is ready to lead you through the basics, possible complications, and any other questions you may have regarding Botox and providing such a service.

This class will begin with a lecture on topics relevant to the clinical use of Botox, including but not limited to:
  • Pharmacology of Botox, as a disease, a drug, and a neurotoxin
  • Tissues & organs affected by Botox with correlations to clinical manifestations
  • Medical and cosmetic indications for Botox
  • Injection sites relative to facial anatomy, skin, and muscle layers
  • Maximizing effects while minimizing dosage
  • Proper reconstitution and needle techniques
  • Minimizing, recognizing, and treating possible complications
  • Other topics based on students' interest
Hourly Agenda
The lecture will be followed by hands-on injection practice using real Botox that is reconstituted by students. Each attendee will be provided with a realistic silicone and rubber model on which to practice injections, improve procedural skills, and enhance confidence. Students are encouraged to bring these models home to continue practicing up until they see their first real patient!

Day 2: Ultrasound-Guided Joint, Nerve, and muscle block injections

This portion of the course will start with a short interactive lecture covering topics such as:
  • A review of the relevant anatomy of joints, bursae, muscles and nerves
  • Ultrasound application in joints, bursae, muscles and nerves evaluation and blocks.
  • Selection of injection paths to confer easy access and minimize damage of surrounding tissue
  • Clinical case studies to understand patient and indication selection
  • Use of Ultrasound (US) guidance to visualize anatomical structures in real-time and increase localization accuracy
  • Complication prevention and management
Hourly Agenda
Following the lecture, attendees will be provided with proprietary designed with varying levels of technical difficulty to  familiarize students with real-life scenarios.  We encourage doing as much hands on practice as possible to improve confidence and procedural skills. Upon completion of the course, attendees will be equipped with injection and ultrasonography skills that can be readily applied to their clinical practice.
